Asking Dad about the weather

From elementary school through high school, one comedian trusted his father’s forecasts. One Sunday, he asked how they worked.

Before the story

Comedian Tsujimoto from Flamingo (フラミンゴの辻本) recalls the confidence he had in his father’s weather predictions during his school years.

A question on Sunday

My dad could predict the weather better than the forecast could.

From elementary school all the way through high school, I’d get up in the morning and ask him, “What’s it looking like today?” And I believed him.

Because he got it right a hundred percent of the time.

One Sunday I finally asked, “Dad, you keep getting the weather right. How do you do it?”

“Come here a minute.” We went out into the yard.

“I’ll show you how I predict the weather. But don’t tell anyone. If you do, they’ll copy me.”

Then he put a hand into his mouth and clicked out his upper dentures.

He tossed them way up into the air—and predicted the weather according to which side they landed on.
